While we love those deep, intimate conversations that bring us close together and join our spirits, what role does difference play in passion? Come explore this and other questions related to relational happiness. We will identify two empathic systems, and understand the role of dopamine in intimate relationships.
Under patriarchy – the framework we all live within – one can be connected or powerful; but not both at the same time. This workshop gives nuts and bolts technique for helping our clients discover “soft” or “loving” power. How to stand up for one’s self and cherish one’s partner, and the relationship, in the same breath. How one partner can help empower the other to come through for them, a win/win for both.
Learn how to teach clients the 3 steps to getting what you want
– Daring to rock the boat
– Teaching them what you want
– Encouraging, rather than discouraging, progress
In her lecture, Fisher discusses four biologically based styles of thinking and behaving and, using her data on mate choice among 28,000 individuals, shows why we are chemically drawn to one person rather than another. In this workshop Fisher goes deeper into these natural temperament constellations, and discusses how partners with very different (and similar) biological styles of thinking and behaving interact to create great joy, confusion and sorrow in their partnerships.

The story of intimacy and sexuality in committed modern couples is one that often tells of dwindling desire and includes a long list of sexual alibis, claiming to explain the inescapable weakening of erotic connection. The absence of fantasy, the proliferation of pornography and affairs, as well as a lack of understanding of the nature of erotic desire all contribute to the depression, loneliness and despair. In this workshop we will probe the intricacies of love and desire. Through case examples and video vignettes, Ms. Perel will introduce innovative strategies for partners to take emotional risks when negotiating their dual needs for connection and autonomy, predictability and passion. This model applies to young, old, married and not, heterosexual and same sex couples.
Madanes will present fifteen innovative strategies for working with difficult couples. Some will be illustrated with videotapes of actual therapy sessions.
Couples, because they come from different background and have different understandings, often use the same words to mean different things, leading to unnecessary conflict. This workshop will provide a simple, but powerful method to quickly resolve couples conflicts using action talk.
Volatile couples come to couples therapy with a fearsome mixture of trauma, devastated dreams, and defensive attitudes. If you ask about their goals or how you can help, you quickly get intense cross complaints, and pressure to fix their partner. Simply trying to understand their problems and asking about their goals can be a toxic beginning as their defensiveness and trauma get re-triggered. This innovative approach is the result of 30 years of seeing couples and searching for a better beginning. In this workshop you will understand how to have each person identify their role in the distress, accept accountability for self-change, identify personal growth changes that are a stretch, create the foundation to work as a team and do it all with a spirit of cooperation and positive strokes. Do all this and more in the first session.
Couples therapy tends to operate without a clear map of successful outcome, except the reported satisfaction/dissatisfaction of the couple. In this workshop, we will propose an optimal outcome of couple’s therapy, the process of reaching it and demonstrate the procedures that achieve it.
Couples’ conflicts that hurt and go unprocessed often lead to chasms of emotional distance. This workshop explains and demonstrates with film how a couple can learn to process their own battles and move from resentment to understanding, accountability, and repair. The Gottman “Recovery Kit” will be explained and given to each participant.
