Volunteers from the audience will create one-act dramas and family sculptures from childhood scenes in order to understand their early decisions and make desired changes in their lives today.
Adolescents go through very deep changes, and go through them more rapidly than their parents did. Many adolescents find that they cannot elaborate these changes. Finding a "safe place" where teens can talk about these processes in group therapy normalizes their feelings; eases tension and may help them regain their inner resources by using Ericksonian hypnosis. The oppositional defiant teenager may find ways to be helped solving their most common problems easily.
IC01 Short Course 02 - Treating the Out-of-Control Adolescent: A Grounded Theory Inquiry Into Haley's Work - Scott P. Sells, PhD
Treating adolescent with severe behavioral problems challenges even the most skilled
practitioner. To address this difficult population a four-year process-outcome research project led
to the discovery of a 15-step integrative treatment model. The process began with an intensive
case analysis of Jay Haley's work using a grounded theory approach, The concepts that emerged
were then tested in the field using outcome measures on 82 families over a two-year period. In
this way, the blending of qualitative and quantitative methods in a single study yielded results that
offered information that neither could provide alone.

This presentation will focus on key emotional challenges in the mouther-daughter relationship and identify the forces that block mutual empathy and connection. We will hear the complaints that adolescent girls voice against their mothers, and explore how therapists can help adult daughters transcend distance and blame.
Ms. Madanes will present a new way of thinking about how injustice in the family can lead to marital and family problems. She will present step by step procedures for discovering an injustice in the family and resolving it effectively so as to solve major problems, violence and depression, panic, child and adolescent problems and sexual abuse.
