This workshop examines the critical elements of effective clinical supervision. This approach is designed to identify and build on clinician strengths, and to augment these strengths with new skills.
This presentation will focus on both Ericksonian principles of supervision and hypnosis supervision. The presentation will include Ericksonian principles of supervision, employing hypnosis in supervision and the nuts and bolts of hypnosis supervision.
By utilizing hypnosis in supervision, supervisors can help supervisees tap into their resources and grow in confidence as therapists. This process of utilizing hypnosis in supervision can be a useful method to meet the standards for achieving the results that supervisors, supervisees, and clients seek. This process can be a very effective method in achieving coherence, strengthening the ability to be accountable, while helping form a clear map for directing supervision.
Excellent supervisors have a way of joining well with their supervisees. Supervisors build strong associations with supervisors, help supervisees extol their areas of incompetence to collaboratively build competencies, and supervisors learn to utilize what the supervisee brings to enhance the quality of the relationship. Through the supervisory relationship, supervisors/supervisees collaboratively generate approaches to working with clients, building appropriate treatment plans, and helping supervisees develop skills needed to work independently.
Judd Marmor (1990) outlines the history of brief dynamic psychotherapy by outlining the psychotherapy beginning with Freud and psychoanalysis. He profiles patients he believes will benefit from short-term therapy. He then conducts supervision with two volunteers. Following the demonstration Marmor discusses his technique.
