Educational Objective: Given a topic, to describe the differing approaches to psychotherapy, and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.
Cloé Madanes (2009) Strategic Therapy with a Couple demonstrates with a young couple who is conflicted about holiday celebrations and vacations. The husband has wounds from his past that resonate with family holidays. He also wants to be more a part of his wife “inner circle” with her son from a previous marriage and vacations challenge him in this area. Madanes uses humor, insight and emotional connection to guide the couple to an accepting compromise.
Cloé Madanes will present a theoretical framework and tools that therapists can use to understand what relationships need to change in order to solve the problem presented to therapy. Madanes will present 20 of her favorite strategies illustrated with case examples and with experiential exercises.
Madanes will present a series of strategies for the prevention of the recurrence of spouse and partner abuse of different degrees of severity. The strategies will be illustrated with videos of actual therapy sessions.
BT06 Workshop 07 - Enhancing Relationships - Cloé Madanes, Lic Psic, HDLMadanes will present a series of skills, practices and strategies for enhancing relationships. There will be opportunity for discussion and for practicing some of these skills.
